you need power.

preferably 5 volts.

I got it working :D - it wasn't the power - my soldering was all good

it was ..... the stupid diagram of the db25 plug was what screwed it all up - i had them soldered to the db25 male pins, i was meant to solder them according to the parellel port pins :o
