Damien Martyn, Jason Gillespie and Michael Kasprowicz have been dropped from the Australian Test Team for the Super Series match against a World XI in Sydney next month.
Martyn was axed after his poor showing in the recent Ashes series in which he made only one half century.
Kasprowicz and Gillespie were dropped during the series.
Shane Watson, Brad Hodge and Stuart McGill come into the 13 man squad for the test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from October 14-19.
Opening batsman Matthew Hayden was dropped from the one day International side to play three matches against the World 11 in Melbourne on October 5, 7 and 9.
Queensland all-rounder James Hopes, who made a century for Australia A in Pakistan this week, comes into the 14-man squad along with Andrew Symonds, Brad Hogg and NSW left-armer Nathan Bracken.
The squads are: One Day Internationals: Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist, Brad Hogg, James Hopes, Michael Hussey, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting (c), Andrew Symonds, Shaun Tait, Shane Watson.
Test squad: Michael Clarke, Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hodge, Simon Katich, Justin Langer, Brett Lee, Stuart MacGill, Glenn McGrath, Ricky Ponting (c), Shaun Tait, Shane Warne, Shane Watson.

they drop hayden, martyn and who they going to put in... nubs ?
Australian cricket selections I have always seen as a hugh ****ing joke. I admit the batting from Australia was pretty poor overall from what they have done in the past. But I cant see puttin in anyone to take there place..... why isnt bichael been mentioned, hes proved that hes a bowler that can be a decent batter..... why the **** dont I see his name, especially in the 1 day internationals.....

yeah i always thought that Marto had to be axed from the test team, but now its happened i feel sorry for the bloke :(
but its a step forward that we needed to take.
The test team for the Super series match should be:
Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Clarke
Katich
Gilchrist
Watson
Warne
Lee
McGrath
MacGill
I don't think Watto is really quite up to the mark for Test Cricket, but we need MacGill in there, so we are gunna need a fast bowling alrounder.
I really hope that Haydos can find his form again and force his way back into the ODI team. He really is an ideal one-day opener when he's on song.

Man, you can't drop Martyn after last year...

Man, you can't drop Martyn after last year...
thats the problem with us Aussies though.
We are living in the past. We cling on to their great results from past years and hope and pray that they can pull through their lean trot. We're all guilty of this mentality, even the selectors.
We really need to start getting some new blood in there now, otherwise when guys like Hayden and Langer and Gilly all start retiring we'll be screwed.

I know what you mean, but he was the highest run scorer in the last calender year wasn't he? I don't think you could drop him.

Yeah he was second to Langer which was an awesome effort.
I think he's pretty unlucky...
His average in England was a woeful 19.77. He did cop a couple of terrible decisions, but what counted against him i think was the fact that a lot of the time he didn't really look like scoring runs.
While he's been pretty consistent over the years, I can only think of a handful of times when he's been a match-winner.
However, I think this Ashes tour has really identified the need for a couple of changes, especially as we look to the future. Unfortunately for Marto it doesn't really make sense to drop any of the other guys just yet. So he's the unlucky guy thats going to have to make way for the new guys.
Another reason why he's gone is probably because the Aussies will be playing MaGilla in the Sydney test, meaning we'll need an allrounder. Again, marto was the unlucky guy that had to make room.

We need to look forward (dont know why the hell you'd bring in MacGill though, Ashes finished a while ago).
If a player like Shane Warne is in a form slump you can hang onto him, because he brings other things to the table like Moral, Sportsmanship, Encouragement, Enthusiasm etc.
Martyn has none of those qualities. He's a boring and always looks depressed. He's totally not social either.
Hopefully Gillespie can get back into some form. But yeah we have to move forward and it sucks.

McGill is ****
look at the stats man... he is a world class spin bowler. He gets more turn that Warnie does these days, and should definately be included in the Sydney test. Last time he played was at Sydney in this year's New Years Test and he picked up 8 wickets for the match. And how quickly people forget the 53 scalps he claimed the year Warne was banned. Thats no small feat.
The only issue is the fact that he can sometimes bowls a few dollys in a spell, but he makes up for that with a strike rate thats better, even, than Warne's.

McGill is ****
the stats suggest that MacGill is indeed one of the best spinners we've had in a long time. Sucks be to him that he's playing at the time of the greatest spinner of all time, eh

that james hopes is an alrounder? maybe a good thing in there.
good to see they didnt drop martyn from the odi team - like with lee 12 months ago, will give him a continued presence to hopefully prove he might be good to reconsider for tests if his form turns around
