Ok the name isn't as convoluted as some of the remakes Capcom are pumping out at the moment, but there is indeed a HD remake of Sonic 2 in the works. Some of you might have noticed the high resolution sprites in siliconrains signature already, those are from this remake.
The game is going to be remade with fully redrawn art, and a remastered soundtrack (http://blazemp3.sepwich.com/sonic2remastered/) is already on the verge of completion. I just spent the last 20 minutes going through those tracks and they've turned out pretty good.
