The Battlefield franchise is a series of computer and console games that started with the PC/Mac game Battlefield 1942, the series is developed by EA Digital Illusions CE, and published by Electronic Arts.
The games feature a focus on large maps and vehicle warfare over and above traditional first person shooters. The main attraction of the games is their online gameplay and the series had sold 17 million copies in August 2008.
